TAMPA, Fla. – Phoenix Rising FC’s Didier Drogba earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 12 of the 2017 season, as his vintage header against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in his debut for Riding FC claimed top billing in the weekly online poll.

The highest-profile addition in the USL and Rising FC this season, Drogba had a standout debut for the club in front of more than 7,000 fans at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. After going close throughout the first half to opening his account for Phoenix, the former Premier League champion connected perfectly with a far-post cross by Amadou Dia from the left to give Rising FC the lead in a game it would go on to win 2-1.

Drogba earned 57 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Kyle Hyland’s volleyed finish for OKC Energy FC in the USL Game of the Week last Tuesday night finished second with 23 percent, while Cameron Iwasa’s sweetly struck finish for the Swope Park Rangers against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Sunday evening finished third with nine percent.
