Eastern Conference Final rematch sees both teams in good form

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls II and Louisville City FC square off in a rematch of the Eastern Conference Final of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs on Sunday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park, with both teams in good form coming in. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.

New York Red Bulls II news and notes

  • Current record: 5-5-2, 17pts

  • The Red Bulls II recorded a second consecutive victory last Saturday night with a 1-0 win against the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium.

  • Brandon Allen scored the only goal of the game, his seventh of the season, off a good move set up by Derrick Etienne Jr. and Vincent Bezecourt.

  • Bezecourt’s assist was his sixth of the season, which leads the USL. The French midfielder also has five goals in 2017.

  • The Red Bulls II have seen 55 total goals scored in their 12 outings this season, an average of more than 4.5 per game.

Louisville City FC news and notes

  • Current record: 5-1-4, 19pts

  • Louisville earned a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Independence in front of 7,403 fans at Slugger Field.

  • Louisville native Richard Ballard scored the only goal of the game, his first in the USL, and his first in from of the club’s home fans. Ballard’s previous tally had come in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in Pittsburgh.

  • The victory moved Louisville two points ahead of the Red Bulls II into third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

  • Louisville and New York are two of the highest-volume shooters in the league, with No. 5-ranked City holding a 154-147 edge over the No. 6-ranked Red Bulls II in total shots going into Sunday’s game.
