PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Friday afternoon the club had signed former Sporting Kansas City defender Amadou Dia. The club also added Canadian goalkeeper Nolan Wirth, a former member of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Academy.

Dia was the 29th overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft when he was selected by Sporting Kansas City. In his rookie season with Sporting Kansas City, he appeared in 22 matches, which included 13 starts, and notched an assist. In 2016, Dia appeared in 10 games prior to being traded to the Montreal Impact for forward Cameron Porter.

A former PDL player for Real Colorado Foxes, Dia had competed at Clemson University prior to his professional career. Dia made 70 appearances for the Tigers in four seasons, and scored four goals while adding four assists.

Wirth also brings experience from the PDL, having played for Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 and the Victoria Highlanders in addition to competing at Oregon State University. In 2016 Wirth recorded three shutouts in 12 matches for the Beavers.
