1868 FC aims to build on big midweek win as Republic FC visits

RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC and Sacramento Republic FC meet for the first time in the USL regular season on Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field, with 1868 FC aiming to build on a big midweek victory that moved the side into the Western Conference playoff positions. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Reno 1868 FC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-3-3, 15pts

  • Reno’s recorded a 3-2 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC on Wednesday night at Greater Nevada Field as Dane Kelly scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season.

  • Both Luis Felipe and Brent Richards scored their first goals for Reno in the win, with Richards’ tally with 13 minutes to go proving the game-winner.

  • Kelly was named on Thursday as the USL Player of the Month for May. The Jamaican scored eight goals in four games to help jumpstart the club’s inaugural season.

  • 1868 FC is now on a six-game undefeated streak in league action, and has scored 20 goals in its past five games.

Sacramento Republic FC FC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-5-3, 15pts

  • Sacramento was held to a 0-0 draw by Rio Grande Valley FC last Saturday night in its last outing, as a crowd of 11,569 at Papa Murphy’s Park saw the side narrowly miss out on a second in its past three games.

  • Republic FC now sits one place back of Reno in the Western Conference standings on goal differential.

  • Sacramento midfielder Danny Barrera leads the USL with 37 chances created this season, and is one of three players alongside Jeremy Hall and James Kiffe to have played every minute for the side this season.

  • Following Saturday’s game, Republic FC will return home to face Real Salt Lake in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The contest will mark the first time an MLS side has visited Papa Murphy’s Park in the club’s tournament history.

  • This is the first league meeting between the teams, but Republic FC took a 2-0 win when the teams met at Papa Murphy’s Park on May 31 in the Third Round of the Open Cup.
