60th meeting between Battery, Kickers renews rivalry for new season

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Eastern Conference-leading Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers will square off for the 60th time in their histories when they meet for the first time in 2017 at MUSC Health Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Charleston Battery news and notes

  • Current record: 7-2-3, 24pts

  • The Battery played to a remarkable 4-4 draw last Saturday night against Louisville City FC, but conceded twice in the final 15 minutes to let victory slide away late.

  • Romario Williams scored twice to put the Battery ahead in the first half, and has equaled his total for the regular season in 2016 with 10 goals this year.

  • The Battery maintain a two-point lead over the Tampa Bay Rowdies at the top of the Eastern Conference going into Week 12’s action.

  • Charleston’s 25 goals are the most of any team in the USL’s Eastern Conference, with the side averaging more than two goals per game.

Richmond Kickers news and notes

  • Current record: 2-6-4, 10pts

  • Richmond’s winless streak reached seven games last Saturday as another big crowd of 6,267 at City Stadium saw the side fall 1-0 to the New York Red Bulls II.

  • The Kickers are looking for their first win since a 2-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on April 22, and currently sit 14th in the Eastern Conference.

  • Defender Mallan Roberts is the lone player in the squad to have played every minute of the season so far for Richmond, and has attempted a team-high 500 passes.

  • Versatile defender Braeden Troyer has recorded a team-high 27 interceptions, and has won 30-of-38 tackles this season.
