Switchbacks goalkeeper’s essential save proved key in win, earned Week 11 honor

TAMPA, Fla. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC goalkeeper Moise Pouaty has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 11 of the 2017 season, with his standout save against OKC Energy FC that played a key role in the hosts taking victory at Weidner Field getting top marks in the weekly online poll.

Colorado Springs and OKC were scoreless midway through the first half when Energy FC was awarded a free kick on the left side. Jose Barril’s floated delivery found Coady Andrews at the top of the six-yard area on the right for a good header back across goal, but Pouaty responded perfectly to palm his effort to safely, allowing the Switchbacks’ defense to clear. The save proved crucial late on, as Rony Argueta’s stoppage-time goal earned the hosts a 1-0 victory as Pouaty recorded his third shutout of the season.

Pouaty’s save received 54 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning, denying the Charlotte Independence’s Cody Mizell back-to-back wins. Mizell’s save against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Sunday night finished second with 40 percent, while Orlando City B’s Earl Edwards Jr.’s reflex stop to deny the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Ben Fitzpatrick finished third.
