ORLANDO – Orlando City B and the Rochester Rhinos traded first-half goals and played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Orlando City Stadium. Both sides are shoulder-to-shoulder in the Eastern Conference standings, but neither could help its cause to make a significant move up. OCB’s Hadji Barry opened the scoring on a strong setup pass from Richie Laryea in the 23rd minute, and Rochester followed two minutes later with Antonio Correia’s first goal. Orlando moves to 4-4-4 (16 points) overall and 1-2-3 at home. Rochester is now 4-1-4 (16 points) overall and 1-1-2 on the road. The Rhinos are unbeaten in six straight games now (3-0-3), with the last defeat being a 5-0 loss at the Charleston Battery on April 15.

Scoring:
23’ – ORL – Hadji Barry (Richie Laryea)
25’ – ROC – Antonio Correia

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. When Orlando’s talent and movement are working and in sync, you get opening-goal sequences such as Wednesday’s when OCB had several wonderfully threaded passes to set up Hadji Barry’s goal in the 23rd minute. It was nothing fancy – simply an ability to visualize and connect in the buildup from back to front. Barry dropped the ball back to Richie Laryea who split the Rochester defense toward the top of the box Barry took one touch to elude Rhinos goalkeeper Tomas Gomez and tapped it home for a 1-0 advantage. For Barry, it’s his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

  • 2. The other side of the spectrum for OCB was a defensive gaffe as the Rhinos took advantage of a gaffe by goalkeeper Josh Saunders, who Orlando City SC acquired from New York City FC back in January. The Rhinos crossed the ball in from the left and Saunders appeared to be ready to make a routine interception. Unfortunately for Orlando, the ball popped out of his gloves and Antonio Correia took the gift to help the Rhinos tie it up in the 25th minute. It marked the first goal for the Cape Verde international, who also made his first start. He was subbed out in the 60th minute in place of Wal Fall.

  • 3. Rochester was well behind Orlando from a possession and passing standpoint, but the Rhinos did enough to make things interesting down the stretch, with multiple chances to come away with a full three points. In the 82nd minute, Rochester generated one of its best chances through a left-footed shot from Fall. He was targeting the far left post and Saunders made the diving stop. Samuel Edoung-Biyo was offside for the rebound, and even still, Saunders halted the attempt just in case. Then in the 88th minute and stoppage time, on two separate occasions, Kenardo Forbes was one-on-one with the 36-year-old veteran Saunders, who left his line in each run and stuffed both shots outside the six-yard area.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:
Richie Laryea, Orlando City B –
Laryea was a focal point throughout the match, whether it was drawing multiple free kicks or connecting beautifully with his teammates, including the setup for Hadji Barry’s goal.
