TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2’s Irvin Parra scored a pair of goals to lead S2 to a 3-0 victory against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday at Starfire Stadium. Seattle wins the season series with Los Dos, having previously earned a 2-1 victory on April 15. Ray Saari also contributed a goal set up by Parra in the 69th minute and returned the favor five minutes later. Seattle improves to 5-5-2 (17 points) overall and 3-3-1 at home. LA falls to 2-7-2 (8 points) overall and 1-4-1 on the road.

Scoring:
60’ – SEA – Irvin Parra (Azriel Gonzalez)
69’ – SEA – Ray Saari (Irvin Parra)
74’ – SEA – Irvin Parra (Ray Saari)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Seattle was the dominant force in the attacking third, but had nothing to show for its efforts until the 60th minute. S2 strung together several passes to set up Irvin Parra for the 1-0 lead. It was right back Denso Ulysse who stepped up with a well-placed cross toward the far left post. Azriel Gonzalez headed it back into the six-yard area and Parra chested the ball into the net. Seattle struck again nine minutes later. Parra easily could have pulled the trigger for a close-range shot, but instead he dished to his left for Ray Saari for the easy finish in the 69th minute for his first professional goal. Saari returned the favor when he laid the ball off for Parra in the 74th minute as Parra now leads S2 with five goals this season.

  • 2. Before the scoring came to fruition in the second half, some of the standout work was within the midfield, particularly on the left side with S2’s David Olsen in the first half and his second-half sub Charles Renken. Olsen generated several shots in the opening half, and his tackle and buildup in the 39th minute to lead Javorn Stevens was one of the stronger potential sequences. Unfortunately for Seattle, Stevens had a heavy first touch down the left side and LA’s Robert Castallanos was able to step in to make the clearance. Renken replaced Olsen in the 54th minute and provided some strong energy down that left side as soon as he was brought in. He also had the interception that led to Parra’s second tally.

  • 3. Seattle will be without Parra heading into next Saturday’s match at Rio Grande Valley FC. Parra picked up his fifth caution of the season and will be suspended for yellow card accumulation. For Parra, who played for last year’s S2 side, it will mean he will be absent against RGV Head Coach Junior Gonzalez, who was previously an assistant coach with Sounders 2.
