ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos extended their undefeated streak to five games as Bradley Kamdem’s second-half goal earned a 1-0 victory against FC Cincinnati on Saturday evening at Capelli Sport Stadium. The first half saw few chances, with Brandon Beresford’s shot from 25 yards wide of the left post for the Rhinos the first serious effort on goal six minutes before halftime. The Rhinos hit the left post less than two minutes into the second half as a redirection from Jochen Graf just missed opening the scoring, and Graf should have done better six minutes later as he skied a finish from inside the six-yard area after a perfect cross by Kenardo Forbes. The Rhinos (4-1-3, 15pts) took the lead in the 65th minute through Bradley Kamdem, however, as he picked up possession on the left, cut toward the top of the penalty area and fired low into the right corner of the net. Cincinnati (4-5-3, 15pts) had a tough chance to equalize late as Andrew Wiedeman’s volleyed effort flew high, but the Rhinos saw out the victory comfortably late on.

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Making a first-half substitution is one of the things a Head Coach would rather not have to do. For the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, it worked out just fine as Bradley Kamdem’s first professional goal provided the Rhinos the goal they needed to get a big win against FC Cincinnati. Kamdem came on in the 22nd minute for an injured Rayane Boukemia, and while he didn’t quite connect for the best performance overall, the 22-year-old Frenchman’s low finish to the right corner with 25 minutes to go made that irrelevant.

  • 2. Cincinnati rotated players into the lineup after two important wins in the league and in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup over the past week, and almost paid the price defensively as its newcomers looked shaky in the early going. Making his first start in the USL, and third overall in the pro ranks, goalkeeper Dallas Jaye was bailed out by an offside flag early as he missed a chance to gather possession. After a good spell recent run, Cincinnati would likely have settled for a draw on Saturday, but the newcomers to the lineup weren’t able to step up to the mark.

  • 3. The Rhinos were tied for the fewest games played in the Eastern Conference coming into Saturday’s game, and with the victory made a big move up the standings in a crowded field vying for a place in the playoffs. With a visit to Florida over the next seven days that sees Rochester face both Orlando and Tampa Bay, there’s a big opportunity for Head Coach Bob Lilley’s side to put itself into the conversation for a top-three position in the conference standings, and in position to make a run at even higher.
