SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 announced on Friday that it had signed midfielder Charles Renken for the remainder of the USL season. Renken most recently played for USL's Saint Louis FC for the past two seasons, making 30 league appearances. He is eligible to play on Sunday afternoon against Sacramento Republic FC at Starfire Stadium.

"Charles is a skilled player and we are excited to bring him in with the club," said Sounders FC Director of Player Personnel Kurt Schmid. "He brings a wealth of experience that improves the quality of S2's play, and hopefully we provide an opportunity for him to flourish within the organization."

A native of Zambia, Renken grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis before joining the U.S. Soccer U17 Residency Academy in Bradenton, Fla. at the age of 13, where he was a heavily-scouted prospect. In 2010, he joined the U19 side for Germany's TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, where he made 10 appearances. The following year, Renken inked a contract with the Portland Timbers and played in 10 reserve matches.

The midfielder went abroad once again in 2013, plying his trade for Sweden's Gimo IF FK before returning stateside in 2014. He played for USL's Arizona United SC in 2014 and Saint Louis FC from 2015-2016. Renken also represented the United States at the U14, U15, U17 and U20 levels from 2007-2011.
