TAMPA, Fla. – Bethlehem Steel FC goalkeeper Jake McGuire has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 9 of the 2017 season, with his outstanding low save against FC Cincinnati earning him the weekly honor.
McGuire and Steel FC were trailing looking to find an equalizer in the second half when Cincinnati broke forward on the counter-attack in the 66th minute. The ball came to FCC’s Jimmy McLaughlin in the left side of the penalty area, and his low shot was pegged for the far post, but McGuire got down well to deny him and keep it a one-goal game.
McGuire’s save received 43 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday morning. Orange County SC’s Charlie Lyon took second with 39 percent for his fingertip stop on OKC Energy FC’s Miguel Gonzalez at Taft Stadium last Saturday, while New York Red Bulls II goalkeeper Evan Louro finished third with 18 percent for his diving save on Ottawa Fury FC’s Tucker Hume at MSU Soccer Park.
