CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati’s new signing found the scoring output he has been longing for. Danni Konig, who was recently acquired in a trade with OKC Energy FC, scored his first two goals to lead Cincinnati to a 2-1 victory on Saturday in front of a crowd of 18,441 at Nippert Stadium. In second-half stoppage time, the match was put on hold for a weather delay. After surveying the situation for the better part of nearly two hours, the USL officially ruled the match complete without the teams retaking the field. A good portion of the FCC fan base stayed on site throughout the delay. The win was FCC’s first against Bethlehem this season, after Steel FC had won the previous two meetings. Cincinnati improves to 3-4-3 (12 points) overall and 2-1-2 at home. Bethlehem’s Seku Conneh converted a first-half penalty kick for his side’s lone score. Steel FC drops to 3-5-0 (9 points) overall and 1-3-0 on the road.

Scoring:
18’ – CIN – Danni Konig (Jimmy McLaughlin)
33’ – BST – Seku Conneh (penalty)
52’ – CIN – Danni Konig

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. New FCC signing Danni Konig opened up his scoring account with Cincinnati, and his play within the first 20 minutes was deserving of a mark in the score sheet. In the 18th minute, Jimmy McLaughlin delivered a beautiful cross from the left – a right-footed ball with the outside of his boot, whipped in to Konig making a run at the near left post. Konig lunged in for the header and placed it into the far right corner of the frame for a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes earlier, Konig thought he was deserving of a good when he went up for a loose ball against Steel FC goalkeeper Jake McGuire. Konig used too much of his arms to prevent McGuire from challenging as Konig headed the ball into the net. He was called for the foul and the goal was not awarded. Then in the 52nd minute, Konig struck again as Kadeem Dacres initially set him up. Konig’s first shot was blocked, but he picked up his own rebound and slotted it inside the left post for a 2-1 lead.

  • 2. As Bethlehem’s only multi-goal scorer this season, Seku Conneh has had to be the main cog in creating his club’s scoring chances. He did his part about 15 minutes after Cincinnati’s score, drawing some contact against Aodhan Quinn inside the edge of the 18-yard box. Conneh took the subsequent penalty kick in the 33rd minute with a cheeky right-footed chip up the middle. Mitch Hildebrandt dove to his left, leaving the middle of the frame open, and Conneh converted to tie the score at 1-1. It was Conneh’s fourth goal of the season and his third against FCC this year.

  • 3. FCC relied on its goalkeeper to handle the brunt of the workload, and he came up with some big-time stops over the course of the match. In first-half stoppage time, Conneh was in prime position to give Bethlehem the lead heading into halftime, but Hildebrandt alertly left his line to intercept at the top of the box. Then in the 56th minute, Ken Tribbett’s header from the left of the box was bound for the right of the frame, and Hildebrandt made a highlight reel save to concede a corner kick.
