Nashville SC defeats Tormenta FC 4-3

NASHVILLE (May 20, 2017) – Severe afternoon thunderstorms and lightning managed to delay the kickoff but couldn’t keep the undefeated Nashville U23 team from getting the better of Tormenta FC Saturday night at Vanderbilt Stadium

The visitors, in town from Savannah, GA, opened the scoring when a ball played into the 18-yard box deflected off a defender into the net for an NSC U23 own goal. The home team answered when Blake Wilson converted a penalty attempt in the 21st min tucking it safely away in the lower left corner of the net. As the weather began to break, so did the NSC defense conceding a penalty in the 44th minute which was converted successfully by the visitors and giving them a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

A slow drizzle continued as the second half kicked off. Unbothered by the weather, Nashville SC equalized in the 52nd minute when Tanner Dieterich connected squarely on a header for the goal. The home side took the lead in the 65th minute when Martim Galvão weaved through the Tormenta defense for the go-ahead goal.

Tormenta leveled the score at 3 apiece when a rebounded shot was slotted past the Nashville SC keeper in the 79th minute. Tormenta had a player sent off immediately following the goal and played the rest of the match down a man. Nashville SC U23 took the lead once and for all when the referee awarded the home team a penalty after an attacker was taken down in the box. Fletcher Ekern easily converted the penalty tucking the ball away in the left side of the net.

Nashville SC announced that tickets for tonight’s match will be valid for a complimentary ticket to any of the six remaining NSC U23 home games this 2017 season.  “Nashville Soccer Club is proud of our U23 team and especially our supporters” said James Cannon, vice president of marketing and communications for NSC. “It’s a token of our gratitude for all the fans that braved the pouring rain, wind and lightning to support the team tonight.”

Nashville SC looks to continue its undefeated season and initial stretch of home games when it hosts Tri Cities FC, from Johnson City, TN, on Friday, May 26th at 7pm.  Tickets can be purchased here.
