Sacramento Republic FC to Host Reno 1868 FC in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Third Round Match at Papa Murphy’s Park

The match is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31 and will mark the fourth straight year Republic FC has hosted a third round match.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 20, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC will continue their run in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when they host Reno 1868 FC (USL) in a Third Round Match on Wednesday, May 31 at Papa Murphy’s Park.  Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are all general admission, $18 and will go on sale on Monday, May 22 at 12 p.m. on Ticketmaster.com.

The Third Round match is not included in the 2017 Republic FC season ticket package.  Papa Murphy’s Park will be completely general admission for the match, with tickets at $18. Republic FC Season Ticket Holders will receive a special promo code that will give them exclusive pricing for the match. 

Republic FC advanced to the Third Round with a 4-0 victory over FC Anahuac on Wednesday, May 17.  Republic FC has now advanced to the Third Round in each of the four years that they have competed in the U.S. Open Cup.  Republic FC is 2-1-0 in the Third Round.

Reno 1868 FC advanced to the Third Round with a 4-3 penalty kick victory over OSA FC (NPSL) after drawing 1-1 in extra time. Reno, a USL expansion side, is participating in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S. and the world’s third-longest-running open soccer tournament. Entering its 104th year of competition, this year’s U.S. Open Cup features a record 99 teams participating in the tiered-bracket and single-game knockout tournament. 18 USL, 6 NASL and 19 MLS teams join 56 lower division teams in the tournament.

The winning team of the U.S. Open Cup will receive a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League for the next season, have their name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy and receive a cash prize. FC Dallas (MLS) are the defending U.S. Open Cup champions.
