Toros welcome Los Dos with both coming in off victories

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC and the LA Galaxy II are both coming off victories when they meet for the first time this season on Saturday night at H-E-B Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Current record: 4-3-0, 12pts

  • Rio Grande Valley recorded its second consecutive win last Saturday as Todd Wharton scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory against the Swope Park Rangers in front of 7,196 fans at H-E-B Park.

  • Wharton’s goal was his first of the season, and won the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 8 of the season.

  • The Toros’ victory moved the side into the playoff positions in the Western Conference, and above .500 for the first time this season.

  • Rio Grande Valley has now won four of its last five outings, and has conceded only two goals in that span.

LA Galaxy II news and notes

  • Current record: 2-5-1, 7pts

  • The Galaxy II snapped a six-game winless streak last Sunday night with a 2-1 comeback victory against the New York Red Bulls II at Red Bull Arena.

  • Adonis Amaya and Justin Dhillon scored for Los Dos, who rallied from a halftime deficit to earn their second win of the season.

  • The Galaxy II announced on Thursday the return to the club of midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias, who had signed his offseason with OKC Energy FC before returning to the west coast.

  • Covarrubias is the Galaxy II’s all-time appearances leader, having played in 77 games for the club over its first three seasons.
