Republic FC looks for Open Cup bounce as it hosts Roughnecks

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC will look to convert a big Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory in midweek to its league form when it hosts a Tulsa Roughnecks FC side that has pushed into the top eight of the Western Conference at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 3-5-1, 10pts

  • Sacramento saw its winless streak in the league stretch to six games last Saturday as it fell 2-0 to Real Monarchs SLC at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • Republic FC has not scored in its past 562 minutes of league action, dating back to Wilson Kneeshaw’s goal against Tulsa on April 9 at ONEOK Field.

  • Sacramento got a strong attacking display on Wednesday night in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against Anahuac FC as Harry Williams scored twice in the first half in a 4-0 win at Papa Murphy’s Park.

  • Republic FC will host Reno 1868 FC in the Third Round on May 31, with the winner of that contest getting to host Real Salt Lake in the Fourth Round.

Tulsa Roughnecks FC news and notes

  • The Roughnecks moved into the playoff positions in the USL Western Conference with a 4-0 victory against Orange County SC last Saturday at ONEOK Field.

  • Ian Svantesson scored twice for the second consecutive game to lead the Roughnecks to victory, and was named the USL Player of the Week on Tuesday.

  • Juan Pablo Caffa also had a goal and assist in the win against Orange County, while Joey Calistri has now scored three goals on loan from the Chicago Fire.

  • The Roughnecks also advanced in the Open Cup in midweek as Cristian Mata and Pasha Kondrakhin each scored twice in a 5-3 win against OKC Energy FC U23. Tulsa will host San Antonio FC in the Third Round.
