Energy FC, Orange County look to build on big Open Cup victories

OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC and Orange County SC will both be looking to get back on track in the league on Saturday night at Taft Stadium after recording big Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victories on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 1-4-1, 4pts

  • Energy FC fell in dramatic fashion last Saturday night at Phoenix Rising FC earned a 2-1 victory at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex in front of 6,251 fans.

  • Kyle Hyland appeared to have earned OKC a point with a late penalty kick, but Rising FC grabbed the three points in the fifth minute of stoppage as Shaun Wright-Phillips scored the winner.

  • Energy FC put in a strong attacking performance on Wednesday night to take a 5-1 win against Moreno Valley Futbol Club in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

  • Alex Dixon scored twice for the side, including the second goal in a six-minute span that saw Energy FC score four times to put the game out of reach.

Orange County FC news and notes

  • Current record: 3-2-1, 10pts

  • Orange County suffered its heaviest loss of the season last Saturday as it fell 4-0 to Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field.

  • The four goals against were the most conceded by the club since a 4-1 loss against Tulsa in the 2015 season.

  • Orange County also rebounded well in the Open Cup on Wednesday night as it took a 5-2 victory against the PDL’s FC Golden State Force.

  • Wuilito Fernandes scored twice in the victory, while Victor Pineda, Monday Etim and Jerry Van Ewijk were also on the scoresheet.
