SAN ANTONIO, Texas – San Antonio FC had all the makings of potentially extending its winning streak, but Seattle Sounders FC 2 fought tough as the two sides played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd of 8,005 at Toyota Field. SAFC saw its five-game winning streak come to a close, despite a heavy dose of shots and possession. This marked the second and final game of the season series, which SAFC wins after defeating Seattle 3-2 on April 25 at Starfire Stadium. Though a win was not meant to be for San Antonio, the Western Conference leader stays unbeaten this year with a 7-0-2 overall record (23 points) and moves to 3-0-2 at home. Seattle is now 4-4-1 (13 points) overall and 2-1-1 on the road.

None

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Pick a number of players among SAFC’s front line or midfield who had some strong chances to get on the score sheet. One of the more active players was Kris Tyrpak, finding his way into the box on more than a few occasions in both halves. Tyrpak generated five shots, but was only able to put one on frame. Seattle’s help defense came up with some key touches throughout the match as S2 endured a steady SAFC attack from start to finish.

  • 2. Seattle should come away satisfied to come away with a road point, especially without putting a shot on frame for the entire game. S2 goalkeeper Tyler Miller made three saves on the night and his back line came up with a couple key blocks. Seattle is unbeaten in three straight now. While this was S2’s lowest showing in the attacking end, the young side did everything it needed to do to gain a result on the road.

  • 3. San Antonio saw the return of midfielder Victor Araujo, who made his first appearance of the year after tearing his ACL in June of 2016. Araujo replaced AJ Ajeakwa in the 76th minute. Araujo had made 11 appearances last season, tallying a goal and an assist in just 382 minutes of play in 2016.
