TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC was working on short rest, but the club had no shortage of goals during this three-day stretch. The Roughnecks tallied four times to roll to a 4-0 victory against Orange County SC on Saturday at ONEOK Field. It was a strong follow-up to Tulsa’s 3-1 victory Thursday against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Ian Svantesson netted two goals while Juan Pablo Caffa scored on another free kick and assisted Joey Calistri’s second-half tally. The Roughnecks improve to 4-3-0 (12 points) overall and 3-2-0 at home. Orange County falls to 3-2-1 (10 points) overall and 2-2-1 on the road.

Scoring:
19’ – TUL – Juan Pablo Caffa
22’ – TUL – Ian Svantesson (Joaquin Rivas)
79’ – TUL – Joey Calistri (Juan Pablo Caffa)
81’ – TUL – Ian Svantesson (Brady Ballew)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. It is more than fair to say that Juan Pablo Caffa is one of the strongest free kick takers the USL has to offer. Tulsa once again enjoyed the fruits of this intangible Saturday night to gain the upper hand against Orange County. It was Brady Ballew who drew a free kick from about 22 yards out and Caffa did the rest. His left-footed strike in the 19th minute was placed perfectly inside the left post. Orange County goalkeeper Charlie Lyon did everything possible to try and stop it, reading the take well and diving to his right to get a tip of the glove on Caffa’s attempt. Caffa’s precision ultimately was too much

  • 2. Ian Svantesson was the focal point offensively Saturday with a tally in each half. Of his two goals, the buildup on the 22nd-minute score was the strongest as he combined with Joaquin Rivas, who headed the ball back to Svantesson who continued his run. Svantesson slotted to the right of the frame to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead at that point. The play originated from a free kick near midfield, demonstrating the range this Roughnecks have offensively when everything is working across the board.

  • 3. While Orange County wasn’t too out-possessed by Tulsa, the visiting side didn’t force too much out of Tulsa goalkeeper Fabian Cerda who made four saves for the clean sheet. Whether through the run of play or a couple set-piece chances, OCSC did not have an answer against Cerda and the Tulsa back line. It marked the second time this season Orange County was shut out, the other being against Sacramento Republic FC, which also posted a 4-0 win on April 1.
