Rangers look to stop slide in rematch of Western Conference Final

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Swope Park Rangers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 square off on Friday night in a rematch of the Western Conference Final of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs at Children’s Mercy Victory Field with the Rangers aiming to halt a two-game losing streak. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Swope Park Rangers news and notes

  • Current record: 3-2-0, 9pts

  • The Rangers fell for a second successive contest this past Saturday as Real Monarchs SLC took a 2-1 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • Swope Park has won all three of its contests on home turf this season, and has won seven consecutive home games, including the postseason, dating back to last season.

  • Kharlton Belmar leads the Rangers with three goals this season, and had the team’s lone tally in its defeat against the Monarchs.

  • Center backs Amer Didic and Erik Palmer-Brown both hold a passing accuracy mark of over 90 percent, while each averaging more than 75 passes per 90 minutes this season.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 2-2-2, 8pts

  • Vancouver played to a 0-0 draw with Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium as Spencer Richey recorded a five-save shutout.

  • The shutout was the third for WFC2 this season, putting the side one behind a trio of teams that lead the USL with four.

  • All six of the goals scored by WFC2 this season have come from inside the penalty area, with Thomas Sanner the lone player on the team with more than one goal.

  • Homegrown midfielder Ben McKendry leads Vancouver in shots (14), shots on target (9), and chances created (10).
