Switchbacks look to build off late point as S2 looks to rebound

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 2-1-3, 9pts

  • The Switchbacks grabbed a late point against Reno last Saturday night as Shane Malcolm’s stoppage-time goal led to a 2-2 draw at Greater Nevada Field.

  • Reno had twice taken the lead in the contest, with Jordan Burt’s first goal of the season getting the Switchbacks back on level terms in the second half before 1868 FC retook the lead shortly after.

  • The Switchbacks took victory in their last contest at Weidner Field, earning a 2-1 victory against Real Monarchs SLC on April 15.

  • Colorado Springs has held an average of 42 percent of possession in its contests this season, and has had only a 71 percent success rate in its passes.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 2-4-0, 6pts

  • Seattle fell for a second consecutive game on Tuesday night as its strong effort against San Antonio FC came up short in a 3-2 loss at Starfire Stadium.

  • The game did mark the first professional goal for defender Sam Rogers, who got S2 within a goal early in the second half, but SAFC was able to continue its undefeated start to the season.

  • S2’s Zach Mathers also scored from the penalty spot against San Antonio, and is tied for seventh in the USL with 11 chances created so far this season.

  • Midfielder Ray Saari has won 45-of-68 duels so far this season, while also recording five interceptions and winning 15-of-19 tackles.
