Playoff rematch sees both clubs coming off positive results

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Rhinos and Charlotte independence meet for the first time since the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs on Saturday night, with both teams coming off positive results in their last outings. Kickoff at Capelli Sport Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. ET.

Rochester Rhinos news and notes

  • Current record: 1-1-2, 5pts

  • The Rhinos grabbed a late point against the New York Red Bulls II last Saturday in their home opener as Joe Farrell’s stoppage-time goal saw the game end in a 2-2 draw.

  • A 2016 USL Rookie of the Year Finalist, Farrell is one of three players to have played every minutes this season for the club alongside Kenardo Forbes and Mike James.

  • Rochester took a 3-1 victory against Charlotte when the teams met in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs, the first postseason meeting between the sides.

  • Jamaican international Sergio Campbell has been a strong addition to the club since his arrival, completing more than 90 percent of his passes this season.

Charlotte Independence news and notes

  • Current record: 1-1-2, 5pts

  • The Independence earned their first victory of the new season as they rallied for a 2-1 win on the road against Saint Louis FC last Saturday night.

  • Enzo Martinez scored his first two goals of the season in the win against Saint Louis, and was named the USL Player of the Week this past Tuesday.

  • Martinez was one of three Independence players sent off in last season’s postseason contest with the Rhinos, which saw him serve a one-game suspension to start the new season.

  • Charlotte is tied for third in the USL with an 80 percent passing accuracy rate, and is averaging 517 passes per game so far this season.
