Vancouver, Sacramento look to bounce back from recent defeats

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 2-2-1, 7pts

  • Vancouver saw its two-game winning streak come to an end as it fell 2-1 against San Antonio FC last Saturday in its first game at Thunderbird Stadium this season.

  • Marco Bustos scored late in the first half to level the score after San Antonio had taken the lead, but Billy Forbes’ goal early in the second half gave the visitors victory.

  • Ben McKendry and Cole Seiler are the lone two players to have played every minute of the season for WFC2, with McKendry leading the club in shots (14), chances created (10) and shots on target (9).

  • Vancouver announced on Thursday the signing of Nazeem Bartman, who was selected by Whitecaps FC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 3-3-0, 9pts

  • Sacramento fell 2-0 to the Portland Timbers 2 last Saturday night in front of 11,569 at Papa Murphy’s Park as the side suffered its third consecutive defeat.

  • Republic FC has been held scoreless in each of its past three contests after scoring eight goals in its first three games of the season.

  • Sacramento leads the USL with 87 shots so far this season, with Wilson Kneeshaw and Sammy Ochoa tied for the team-high with 11 apiece.

  • Republic FC’s last three-game losing streak occurred between April 17-30, 2016 when the side fell to Portland, Saint Louis and Orange County. Sacramento has never suffered a four-game losing streak.
