Rangers look to bounce back in visit to Monarchs

SANDY, Utah – Real Monarchs SLC will look for its fifth win of the new season on Saturday evening when it plays host to a Swope Park Rangers side that is looking to rebound from its first defeat of 2017 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. MT.

  • Current record: 4-1-0, 12pts

  • The Monarchs rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 last Saturday night at Starfire Stadium.

  • Jose Hernandez and Nick Besler both found the net for the Monarchs in the second half after S2 had equalized shortly after the halftime break.

  • Saturday’s game marks the Monarchs’ first home game since a 5-3 victory against Reno 1868 FC on April 6, with the side having visited Colorado Springs and Seattle since then.

  • Midfielder Charlie Adams will be available for selection after serving a suspension for his red card against Colorado Springs. Adams sits third in the USL with 16 chances created this season.

Swope Park Rangers news and notes

  • The Rangers fell 4-3 to Phoenix Rising FC last Sunday night despite a furious comeback that saw the side score three times in the final 15 minutes.

  • Kevin Oliveira scored his first two goals of the season in the comeback effort in his first start for the side since a torn ACL brought his 2016 season to a premature end.

  • Swope Park saw its seven-game regular-season winning streak come to an end in Phoenix, falling one win short of tying the USL record set by Orlando City SC in the 2014 season.

  • The Rangers’ Jaylin Lindsey has started both of the U.S. U17 National Team’s victories at the CONCACAF U17 Championship, including Wednesday night’s 4-3 win against Mexico that sent the U.S. into the second stage of the tournament.
