Former All-AAC forward at South Florida joins club for rookie season

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 announced on Thursday that the club has signed forward Nazeem Bartman, pending league and federation approval.

Bartman, 23, was selected by Whitecaps FC in the fourth round (73rd overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. The native of Cape Town, South Africa joined the club for preseason in Portland in February before awaiting his work permit and visa.

“We are excited to have Nazeem with us,” said WFC2 head coach Rich Fagan. “He is a diverse attacking player who is comfortable wide or central. We look forward to working with him.”

Over the last two seasons, Bartman played with the University of South Florida Bulls of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) American Athletic Conference, recording 14 goals and nine assists in 37 appearances and earning back-to-back first team All-American Athletic Conference selections.

Prior to that, Bartman had 33 goals and 17 assists in 39 appearances with Tyler Junior College of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), earning NJCAA player of the year honours after leading the Texan side to a national title in 2014.

In his native South Africa, Bartman spent time with Ajax Cape Town, Old Mutual Academy, and Super Short Academy before relocating to the United States for college.
