Cincinnati, Tampa Bay meet in USL Game of the Week on ESPN3

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati will play host to the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3 on Wednesday night in a high-profile meeting between two teams expected to be in contention for the USL Eastern Conference Championship at the end of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

FC Cincinnati news and notes

  • Current record: 2-2-0, 6pts

  • FC Cincinnati welcomed a USL Home Opener record crowd of 23,144 on Saturday, and then swept to a 4-0 victory against Saint Louis FC to even their record for the season.

  • New signing Djiby Fall recorded all four goals in the victory, and in the process scored the first hat trick in FC Cincinnati’s history.

  • Fall now leads the USL with six goals in four games this season, and also leads the league with 17 shots as he looks to become the second consecutive FC Cincinnati player to earn the USL Golden Boot.

  • Cincinnati’s attendance was the second-highest in the United States and Canada over the past weekend, trailing only the MLS clash between Orlando City SC and LA Galaxy.

Tampa Bay Rowdies news and notes

  • Current record: 3-1-0, 9pts

  • Tampa Bay fell for the first time this season in its last outing as Louisville City FC took a 2-1 victory in front of 9,074 fans at Slugger Field.

  • The Rowdies’ Martin Paterson scored his first goal for the club late in the contest. A former Northern Ireland international, Paterson was activated after Georgi Hristov was granted his Green Card last week.

  • Tampa Bay’s Luke Boden is currently ninth in the USL with 257 passes attempted. The former USL All-League selection has completed 79.4 percent of his passes this season, and has created three scoring chances.

  • The Rowdies return home on Saturday for the final game of a tough week of action as they host the Charleston Battery at Al Lang Stadium.

Series Notes

  • The two sides will meet for the second time on Wednesday, with the Rowdies having taken a 1-0 victory in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup last year. The rematch between the clubs at Al Lang Stadium on July 6 will be aired on ESPNU.
