The Rochester Rhinos could not find the kryptonite to slow down Charleston Battery striker Romario Williams on Saturday.

With three goals and an assist in the opening 45 minutes, the Jamaican forward thoroughly dismantled Rochester to the tune of a 5-0 victory against the Battery’s Eastern Conference rival.

“Superhero night, right? He looked like Superman out there tonight,” Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser said. “I’m sure that’s what he wants to do every night.”

Williams led the Battery with 10 goals a season ago, so a breakout performance was certainly going to be in the cards at some point. His speed and tenacity were in full bloom against Rochester as he also set up Ataulla Guerra in the 31st minute.

“It felt good,” Williams said. “I always know chances are going to come, and my job is to put them away when they come my way. It was a special night for myself and the team here at home. We always want to treat the fans to a good performance.”

“He’s had lots of chances in the first four matches and he did well to finish them off tonight,” Anhauser said. “His performance was tremendous.”

Charleston improves to 3-1-0 and leads the Eastern Conference with 10 goals in four matches. The fact that half of those tallies came against Head Coach Bob Lilley’s Rhinos was a welcome surprise for Charleston.

Rochester had not conceded five goals in a match since the 2013 season.

“Romario picking up the hat trick and Ataulla adding the fourth in the first half was impressive against Rochester who’s always a solid defensive team,” Anhaueser said. “Last week we lost to a team that we’ve beaten a lot of late (the Pittsburgh Riverhounds) and this week we beat a team that we’ve lost to a lot over the past couple of years.

“I think that shows the difficulty of this league.”
