WFC2 look to build on first victory against winless T2

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers 2 will try to claim their first points of the season on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Providence Park, with WFC2 coming off its best performance in its last outing. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 0-4-0, 0pts

  • Portland remained rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference with its fourth consecutive defeat to start the season last Saturday as Orange County earned a 2-1 victory at Providence Park.

  • All four of T2’s defeats to start the season have been one-goal games as the side has scored three goals and conceded seven to start the season.

  • Portland is averaging 53 percent possession in its four contests so far, and has a rate of 416 passes per 90 minutes that has the side eighth in the league in total passes this season.

  • Villyan Bijev, who claimed the USL Assists title a season ago, has still yet to record his first for the side this year, but does have a team-high seven chances created.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 1-1-1, 4pts

  • Vancouver swept to a 3-0 victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 last Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park in the club’s home opener as late goals by Andy Thoma and Ben McKendry saw the side pull away.

  • New Zealand international Deklan Wynne scored the opening goal of the game, his first as a professional, and was named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday.

  • McKendry’s goal was his first of the season, with the central midfielder currently leading WFC2 in shots with 10, chances created with eight, and second in passes with 145 in three games.

  • The shutout was Spencer Richey’s first of the season in three appearances for WFC2, with the goalkeeper recording a .750 save percentage early in the year.
