Switchbacks look to hand Monarchs first blemish to perfect start

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain rivalry between Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and Real Monarchs SLC will resume on Saturday evening at Weidner Field with the Monarchs aiming to continue a perfect start to the new season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. MT.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 1-1-2, 5pts

  • The Switchbacks suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday night as Rio Grande Valley FC earned a 3-1 victory at H-E-B Park.

  • Colorado Springs pulled level early in the second half on Chris James’ first goal for the club, but second-half goals by Memo Rodriguez and Camilo Monroy earned the Toros their first win the their new stadium.

  • The Switchbacks are now winless in their last three outings, having played to a 1-1 draw with OKC Energy FC in their home opener on April 2.

  • Colorado Springs will have Cameroonian goalkeeper Moise Pouaty available for the first time on Saturday as he joined fellow countryman Pascal Eboussi in the squad.

Real Monarchs SLC news and notes

  • Current record: 3-0-0, 9pts

  • The Monarchs continued their best start to a season in their history with a 5-3 win against Reno 1868 FC last Thursday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • Sebastian Velasquez had a goal and assist in the victory, which saw Real notch five goals for the first time in the club’s history.

  • The Monarchs lead the USL with nine goals in three contests this season, and currently sit second in the league behind only San Antonio with a 28 percent shot-conversion rate.

  • Real’s winning streak is its longest since a five-game winning streak that concluded the 2015 USL regular season.
