Switchbacks conclude trip to Texas with clash against Toros

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC plays host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Wednesday night at H-E-B Park with the Switchbacks concluding their trip to Texas against a Toros side that earned its first win of the season on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT.

Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Rio Grande Valley FC earned its first win of the season on Saturday when it downed OKC Energy FC 1-0 at Taft Stadium behind Ruben Luna’s first goal of the season.

  • The Toros’ Calle Brown saved a penalty kick early in the second half against Energy FC before Luna scored from a spot kick midway through the half for the side’s first goal of the season.

  • RGVFC will be without Victor Garza, who is suspended after he was sent off in the contest on Saturday.

  • The Toros will be looking to score their first regular-season goal at H-E-B Park on Wednesday night after being shut out by San Antonio FC in their home opener.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • The Switchbacks earned a 1-1 draw against San Antonio FC on Friday night in the first game of their road trip, with Aaron King’s early goal giving the side the lead before Kris Tyrpak’s stunning finish leveled late on.

  • King’s goal was his first for the Switchbacks since the 2015 season, with the veteran forward having seen limited action last year recording only 295 minutes.

  • Dan Jackson has recorded a .714 save percentage over the past two games, conceding once each in a pair of 1-1 draws.

  • The Switchbacks will return home to Weidner Field on Saturday to face their Rocky Mountain rival Real Monarchs SLC in their next outing.
