Portland, Orange County look to bounce back from defeats

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers 2 and Orange County Blues SC will both try to bounce back from setbacks in their last outings when they meet on Saturday night at Providence Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 0-3-0, 0pts

  • Portland fell to its third consecutive defeat to start the season last Sunday when it fell 2-1 to Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Starfire Stadium.

  • Villyan Bijev gave T2 the lead, but then had a penalty kick saved by S2’s Bryan Meredith with 12 minutes to go after S2 had rallied with two goals in three minutes to take the lead.

  • Portland also opened the 2016 USL regular season on a three-game losing streak, but won its fourth game, a 1-0 victory against Sacramento Republic FC at Merlo Field.

  • T2 goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh leads the USL with 19 saves in three games, and is on pace to record more than 200 stops in a 32-game regular season.

  • Current record: 1-1-0, 3pts

  • Orange County fell 4-0 to Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday night, evening its record for the season after its opening win in Reno two weeks ago.

  • Orange County held 60 percent of possession against Sacramento, but only put two of its 11 total shots on target as a pair of goals by Sammy Ochoa led the hosts to victory at Papa Murphy’s Park.

  • Saturday’s game continues a four-game road trip to open the season for Orange County, which visits its I-405 Derby rival the LA Galaxy II on April 22 in its next outing.

  • Orange County has completed 79 percent of its passes this season, tied for fourth in the USL.
