Saint Louis looks to build on victory against defending champion

FENTON, Mo. – Saint Louis FC will look to build on its first win of the season when it welcomes the defending USL champion New York Red Bulls II to Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis on Saturday night with New York aiming to rebound from a midweek setback. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

  • Current record: 1-0-1, 4pts

  • Saint Louis notched its first win under new Head Coach Preki last Saturday night as it defeated Ottawa Fury FC 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 5,566 in its home opener.

  • Christian Volesky had a goal and assist in the contest, and also played a key role in the side’s late winner as Max Alvarez’s effort was turned home by Fury FC midfielder Sergio Manesio with three minutes to go.

  • Volesky’s goal was his first for the club since arriving this offseason from the Rochester Rhinos, and the forward was voted the USL Player of the Week for his performance.

  • Midfielder Ivan Mirkovic has recorded 101 passes this season to lead the team, and has completed 76 percent of his passes in the attacking half, good for fourth on the team.

New York Red Bulls II news and notes

  • Current record: 1-1-1, 4pts

  • New York is coming off a 1-0 defeat to the Harrisburg City Islanders on Wednesday night that saw former Red Bulls II player Manolo Sanchez score the winner in his return to Red Bull Arena.

  • The defeat ended a 12-game regular-season undefeated streak for the Red Bulls II, who had last suffered defeat against the Richmond Kickers on July 30, 2016.

  • New York rookie Arun Basuljevic leads the USL with 199 pass attempts in three games, and holds a 77.9 percent completion percentage overall.

  • All four of the Red Bulls II’s goals this season have been scored with the left foot, with Vincent Bezecourt’s pair of tallies leading the club.

  • New York swept the season series in 2015 when the the two teams were part of the Eastern Conference, including a 4-1 road win in the first meeting between the clubs.
