Player of the Week Hertzog doubles up with GOTW honors

It’s decision time again.

The Fans' Choice Goal of the Week title back up for grabs after a #USLKickoff weekend that saw a number of stellar strikes.

A USL All-League selection in 2016, Corey Hertzog picked up right where he left off to start the new season with a pair of goals against the New York Red Bulls II, and his first tally of the game that brought the Highmark Stadium crowd to its feet is a serious contender.

So is a blast by a newcomer to the league, with Argentinian playmaker Juan Caffa’s first goal for Tulsa Roughnecks FC proving a cracker of a free kick. Sacramento Republic FC’s Emrah Klimenta also made a big return as his low drive proved a game-winner against Seattle Sounders FC 2.

The pass-masters were also out in force, with Orange County SC’s Carlos Alvarez threading the needle perfectly for Duke Lacroix to score the first goal of the club’s new era against Reno 1868 FC. Meanwhile, the New York Red Bulls II’s Arun Basuljevic showed a deft touch to set up Florian Valot for the first goal of the 2017 USL season.

Five goals, one winner. Let us know who you think scored the best goal from the opening weekend of the 2017 USL regular season.

Voting will continue through 9:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 30, with the winning goal advancing to the first USL Goal of the Month competition of 2017.
