Panther's third-leading scorer talks about playing in the state tournament and more

Emily Yetzer

Emily Yetzer is a senior defenseman on the Lakeville North hockey team. She is the Panthers’ third-leading point scorer. Here is a closer look at Yetzer:

The best movie I’ve seen in the past year? “Shutter Island.”

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Loud; helpful; enthusiastic.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Winning the section championship last year and playing in the state tournament. It was the most unreal experience.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … really nervous but excited to start playing for my school with new people.

To get focused for a game, I … visualize and jam to the Jonas Brothers with my team in our locker room.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? That games would be free for students; then maybe we would have a few more fans.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I usually try to get my homework done during school or right before practice because we don’t practice until 4:30 p.m.

Your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Twins! I love watching games at Target Field.

Do you have a secret talent – and if so, what is it? Singing the national anthem.

In 10 years, I hope I’m … working as a nurse in an emergency room.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Play for the love of the game. If you’re not having fun, then you’re not playing for the right  reasons.
