Toros’ new home brings authentic experience, top-level amenities

EDINBURG, Texas – As soccer fans turn onto Freddy Gonzalez Drive in Edinburg and make their way past a local school, their eyes are immediately drawn to five 30-foot tall portraits of Toros players in full kits welcoming them to H-E-B Park, the new home of Rio Grande Valley FC.

Nestled within a sprawling green bordered by Los Lagos Golf Club to its south, the new stadium includes a 2,000-seat amphitheater on property and the Toros’ training fields to its north. In addition to 9,700 bright orange seats, H-E-B Park features a full-service restaurant, executive lounges, a sports bar, and 33 suites which include VIP amenities. Park grounds include practice fields for 7v7 and 5v5 soccer, various bench areas with picnic-sized tables, and a playground.

But for what most fans will mainly come here to enjoy, H-E-B Park delivers a truly unique and authentic soccer experience where supporters get up close to the action and feel the intensity on the pitch. With awnings covering the seating sections on either side of the field, the venue creates a loud, intimidating and raucous atmosphere for visiting teams, as San Antonio FC witnessed firsthand during the 2017 USL season home opener Sunday night.

Fans made their way across every area of the stadium, but one of the amenities that drew most people fans was the Toros Bar along the north walkway. A large crowd enjoyed cold beverages with a field-level view of the action from behind the goal. In fact, fans stood and cheered from the concrete patio for the full 90-minutes, pushing the Toros in search of the equalizer that would have been the icing on the cake Sunday night.

Along the sideline, guests who desired a more premium experience took advantage of the luxury field-level suites with VIP amenities and posh, comfortable seats located almost directly on the pitch and behind the team benches. It’s an intimate and up-close experience that will certainly thrill fans all season long.

H-E-B Park’s grandstands along both sides of the pitch rose high, providing fans with comfortable seats and excellent sightlines to catch all the action. Access to concessions and restrooms – always an important feature at any stadium – was fast and convenient.

A number of special guests were on hand to take in the action Sunday night including Houston Dynamo President Chris Canetti and several members of his staff, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, who provided some pre-game entertainment with dozens of students from the Cheerleading Camp, and many more.

H-E-B Park has raised the bar for soccer-specific stadiums in the USL, providing the Toros with a place to call home, and creating a tough environment for visiting teams. H-E-B Park will also be a key contributor to the Rio Grande Valley community, hosting top of the line professional soccer, musical concerts, high school sporting events, and other forms of entertainment.

Soccer fans and residents alike will definitely enjoy the benefits of H-E-B Park for years to come.
