OTTAWA – Ottawa Fury FC announced on Thursday the club had signed Haiti U20 international Jimmy-Shammar Sanon. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

The winner of the 2016 USL Goal of the Year for his strike against the Charleston Battery for FC Montreal last season, the 5-foot-7 midfielder is the fourth player to join Fury FC from Montreal through the partnership agreement between the clubs.

“Jimmy is a young exciting talent with blistering pace,” said Fury FC Head Coach and General Manager Paul Dalglish. “He won goal of the year in the USL last year so he definitely has that ability to do something different. He’s young so he’s going to come here and compete for minutes with our guys and hopefully he’ll fulfill his potential with us.”

Sanon made five appearances for Montreal last season, but his first professional goal caught the spotlight as he edged out FC Cincinnati’s Eric Stevenson in the final vote for the 2016 USL Goal of the Year.

This offseason Sanon also got the chance to compete on the international stage with Haiti at the CONCACAF U20 Championship. Sanon recorded one goal in the tournament in a 5-1 victory against St. Kitts & Nevis in the group stage.
