FRISCO, Texas – A second-half goal by Aly Hassan that highlighted a positive overall performance wasn’t quite enough for San Antonio FC in its final preseason contest as the side fell 2-1 to FC Dallas on Sunday afternoon. The defending MLS Supporters Shield and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup holders tallied two early goals in the first half through Michael Barrios and Tesho Akindele.

“First and foremost we would like to thank FC Dallas for hosting us today,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “Today was a good competitive game for us to conclude our preseason. The players showed some good character and resilience after going down early. We learned a lot and now we get ready for the regular season, which starts next weekend.”

FC Dallas started the game well and capitalized on their first opportunity, scoring in the eighth minute as Barrios found the back of the net. The hosts doubled their lead 20 minutes later as Akindele capitalized on a feed from Barrios.

SAFC created a number of first-half opportunities as well, with midfielder Rafa Castillo hitting the post with a free kick before narrowly missing a one-on-one with Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez minutes later.

San Antonio cut the lead in half in the 65th minute when substitute Hassan was able to get on the end of a low cross from midfielder Billy Forbes after the latter found space following some impressive wing play. The goal marked the first for Hassan since joining SAFC this preseason.

Despite pressing and creating a number of good chances in the closing minutes, SAFC fell just short of an equalizer. With the final whistle, the club concluded its preseason as it prepares to open its USL campaign next Sunday against Rio Grande Valley FC in Edinburg, Texas.
