Desiré helped Grenadiers advance to Gold Cup Playoff against Nicaragua

SANDY, Utah – Real Monarchs SLC announced on Wednesday it had signed Haitian forward Jonel Desiré ahead of the 2017 USL regular season. The signing is pending league and federation approval and receipt of P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate.

Desiré joins the Monarchs after most recently competing for AS Mirebalais in his home country. The 20-year-old has made five appearances for the Haiti National Team, and scored his first goal for his country this past January against Suriname to help the side reach a playoff against Nicaragua later this month for the final berth in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.

Desiré also scored two goals in three games for the Haitian U20 side in the most recent CONCACAF U20 Championship, finding the net in Haiti’s games against St. Kitt’s & Nevis and Panama in the group stage. Desiré finished the tournament with six shots, and started against a United States U20 side that included current Real Salt Lake players Justen Glad, Danny Acosta and Brooks Lennon in its starting lineup.

Desiré has also previously competed for the Haiti U23 National Team, appearing for the side in CONCACAF Qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
