CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati got goals in either half by Djiby and Andrew Wiedeman to notch a 2-0 victory against the University of Cincinnati in a preseason exhibition on Saturday night at Gettler Stadium.

Djiby gave FCC a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute, scoring in the midst of traffic. Connecting with Aodhan Quinn on a set piece, Djiby crossed into the penalty from the right side and slipped his first-time finish past UC goalie Pearce Skinner.

The goal was Djiby’s third of the preseason, and was almost his fourth after his strike off a pass from Kadeem Dacres less than a minute earlier was called back on a delayed whistle.

Weideman also missed an opportunity to record a brace in the second half. In the 66th minute, Victor Mansaray beat his defender on the left side and took a hard shot from 35 yards out that was blocked away, only for Wiedeman to pounce on the rebound and slide the ball in for his first preseason goal.

Thirteen minutes later, Wiedeman stepped up to take a penalty kick after Eric Stevenson had his driving run toward goal halted from behind, but Wiedeman’s shot clanged off the post.

Head coach Alan Koch fielded a different lineup in either half, and had by far the better chances throughout the first half. Djiby had the chance, taking a long pass from Harrison Delbridge in the 13th minute, but saw his shot squirt wide. Bearcats goalkeeper Skinner was active throughout the first half, denying both Daryl Fordyce and Kenney Walker in the opening 25 minutes.

Dacres also proved a consistent threat, as he took five shots in the first half, while Paul Nicholson hit the post as FCC looked for a second goal late in the first half.

FCC continued to hold possession for most of the second half. Mansary was active early and looked to connect in the 63rd minute, carrying the ball deep into the UC penalty area, but Stevenson, heading toward the goal, just missed connecting on the pass.

Andy Craven also had a chance to add to FCC’s lead when he shook off a series of defenders and earned a free kick for FCC but his header was intercepted by Skinner.
