TORONTO – Toronto FC II took a 2-1 preseason victory against Ottawa Fury FC on Friday afternoon at the Kia Training Ground. Brian James scored both goals for Toronto as it rallied back from an early deficit to defeat the USL newcomers.
The game opened well for Ottawa, as offseason addition Steevan Dos Santos was brought down in the penalty area in the 10th minute and was awarded a penalty kick. The Cape Verdean striker didn't miss his chance and scored his first goal of the preseason to give Fury FC a 1-0 lead.

TFC II hit back nine minutes later as James put home a left-footed finish. On the half-hour mark James went close again as he rang a free kick off the post, but two minutes before halftime he gave Toronto the lead with his second goal of the game.

Ottawa raised its intensity to start the second half as it looked for an equalizer, but it was Toronto that got the best chance with nine minutes to go when it was awarded a penalty kick. Jay Chapman stepped up for the Reds, but Fury FC goalkeeper Callum Irving made the save to keep the deficit at one. Despite a pair of late chances for Ramon Martin del Campo and Lance Rozeboom, however, Ottawa was unable to equalize as it fell for the first time this preseason.

"It's never fun losing, no matter what time of the year it is. To be honest, the first half wasn't good enough, wasn't up to our standards," said Rozeboom. "I'm happy with how we reacted in the second half, even though we didn't get the tying goal. We're going to learn from this."
