Roughnecks Sign Former Republic FC midfielder Rivas

Made 19 USL appearances for Sacramento over past two seasons

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Joaquin Rivas for the 2017 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Rivas joins the Roughnecks after spending the past two seasons in the USL with Sacramento Republic FC. The 24-year-old made 19 total appearances for Republic FC, recording one assist as he featured as an attacking winger.

Prior to turning professional, Rivas played four years for the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) where he was a teammate with former Roughnecks midfielder Julian Portugal. After college, he starred for the Kitsap Pumas in the Premier Development League, where he scored six goals in 13 appearances during the 2014 season.

Rivas and the Roughnecks squad will see their first official action this weekend when they face the University of Tulsa this Saturday afternoon, March 4.  Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. CT at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium, with admission only $5 per person. The TU women’s team will square off against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the second game of a soccer doubleheader on Saturday.
