PHOENIX – Former Chivas de Guadalajara and Mexico National Team striker Omar Bravo arrived to cacophonous reception from local soccer fans, and spoke briefly with the media as he arrived at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport on Wednesday evening.

The highest-profile addition to Rising FC’s squad this offseason, Bravo will join his teammates who kicked off preseason training camp on Monday aiming to bring success to his new club in the USL this season.

"This represents the future to me,” Bravo told reporters. “I am happy that soccer has given me the opportunity to play for so many years. I hope that I am able to captivate people in Phoenix, Arizona with soccer. I am very thankful for the Phoenix Rising FC executives for choosing me. I hope to be able to get good results right away.”

Bravo is the all-time goal-scoring leader for legendary Liga MX side Chivas with 132 goals, and could prove a major draw as Phoenix looks to reach the USL Cup Playoffs for the first time in club history. Bravo said he was looking forward to bringing joy to soccer fans of all stripes throughout the region.

"It is no secret that there are several Chivas fans here in Arizona but I believe that I also represent Mexicans and other Latin Americans,” Bravo said. “I want to bring joy through soccer to Mexicans, Latins and especially Americans.”
