SAN JOSE, Calif. – Antoine Hoppenot scored early in the second half as Reno 1868 FC earned a 1-1 draw with its MLS  partner the San Jose Earthquakes in a closed-door scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon at Bellarmine College Prep.

The Quakes had the better of the first half, as forward Marco Ureña fired an early shot that narrowly sailed wide of goal from the top of the penalty area. Ureña had another chance to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute when he combined with Kofi Sarkodie, but the Costa Rican’s shot was cleared away from danger.

1868 FC opened the scoring through Hoppenot 10 minutes into the second half as he tucked home a near-post finish past Quakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell. Reno’s advantage didn’t last long, however, as U.S. international Chris Wondolowski grabbed an equalizer three minutes later when Sarkodie’s back-heeled pass found San Jose’s captain to finish.

Both teams had chances late on, as Quakes rookie Jackson Yueill shot just wide of the post with seven minutes to go, while Reno’s Mackenzie Pridham hit the crossbar with a header three minutes later. 1868 FC also saw a number of Quakes Academy players join them for the game, with Andrew Paoli, Irvin Valencia and Arda Bulut all seeing action for the side.

Reno will play host to fellow USL side Sacramento Republic FC on March 11 at Greater Nevada Field as it continues to the build-up to its inaugural season in the USL.
