Wojcik scores twice for OKC in entertaining 3-2 victory at IMG Academy

BRADENTON, Fla. — OKC Energy FC took a 3-2 victory against fellow USL side FC Cincinnati on Sunday evening at IMG Academy to earn a third consecutive win to start the preseason. Wojciech Wojcik scored two goals and Daniel Jackson had two assists for Energy FC, while newcomer Daryl Fordyce found the net for FCC in its opening game of the preseason.

Energy FC grabbed an early 1-0 lead when a quick free kick by Juan Pablo Guzman gave former LA Galaxy II midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias space at the top of the penalty area for a shot that eluded Cincinnati goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt.

FC Cincinnati tied the game just before the hour-mark as two of its new additions combined nicely. A pass from Djiby Fall found Fordyce at the top of the penalty area, and he drove a finish past OKC keeper Cody Laurendi.

The combination of Jackson and Wojcik  struck twice in the final 20 minutes, however, as in the 72nd minute Jackson slipped past a FC Cincinnati defender in the attacking third and sent a low cross to Wojcik, whose clipped shot found the upper-left corner of the goal.

The two combined again 11 minutes later Jackson corralled a cross into the box by Covarrubias and shuffled a pass quickly to the left, where Wojcik flipped a shot over leaping FC Cincinnati keeper Dallas Jaye for what would be the game’s deciding goal.

FC Cincinnati pulled a goal back late when Austin Berry scored off a corner kick in the 89th minute, but OKC held possession over the remainder of the game to close out the victory and keep its positive start to the preseason going.
