BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC announced on Thursday two preseason matches ahead of its second season in the USL. The two games will see Steel FC square off against a pair of local universities – Villanova and Temple – in the first week of March.
Steel FC’s preseason slate begins on Wednesday, Feb. 22, against Junior Lone Star FC. The games against Villanova (March 1) and Temple (March 4) are scheduled for the following week. A full preseason schedule will be announced at a later date.
The preseason matches serve as tune-ups prior to the regular season starting for Steel FC on Saturday, April 1 when the club hosts 2015 USL champions Rochester Rhinos at Goodman Stadium.
“It’s great for us to be able to schedule some quality college competition as we ramp up the volume and difficulty of our preseason games with an eye on the season opener on April 1,” Bethlehem Steel FC Head Coach Brendan Burke said. “Both of these teams have done well over the past few years and we are looking forward to two solid tests.”
Villanova is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance after a 10-win season that saw the Wildcats advance to the Big East conference tournament semifinals. Temple is also coming off a 10-win season under Head Coach David MacWilliams, with the Owls set to be led by NSCAA All-Region selection Carlos Moros Garcia against Steel FC.
All three preseason matches are open to the public and free of charge.
