RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC announced on Tuesday it had signed midfielder Seth Casiple and defender Jake Ward, pending league and federation approval.

“Both of these players are great additions to our team,” said 1868 FC Head Coach Ian Russell. “Seth is a great technical player, and Jake is a very tough and athletic defender.”

Casiple, 23, was selected by the Portland Timbers in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, and was subsequently signed by the Portland Timbers 2 of the USL. In his debut with the club, he assisted two goals in a 2-0 victory against PDL club Michigan Bucks in the Third Round of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Casiple made 31 regular-season appearances in the USL for T2 over the past two seasons, and recorded one goal and one assist. Prior to his professional career, Casiple competed for the University of California-Berkley, where he recorded nine goals and 27 assists in 74 career appearances, and also in the PDL for the San Jose Earthquakes U-23.

Ward, 28, currently resides in Truckee, Calif., and most recently played soccer at California State University, Chico. In 2013, he started in all 18 matches and scored two game-winning goals. Before attending Chico, he played one season at Butte College. At Butte, Ward earned All-Golden Valley Conference honors in 2008.
