SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC opened its 2017 preseason with a 2-1 victory against the University of Incarnate Word 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Field in a closed-door preseason friendly. Devin Vega had a goal and assist as SAFC rallied to earn his side victory.

UIW opened the scoring about 10 minutes into the second half after splitting the SAFC defense and slotting the ball past goalkeeper Lee Johnston.

San Antonio FC defender Ryan Roushandel leveled the score 15 later when he scored from close range after a set piece by San Antonio native Vega. The 18-year-old added a goal of his own in his first appearance for SAFC minutes later when he converted a penalty kick after forward Akwafei Ajeakwa was taken down inside the box.

“It was a good feeling to get a goal against a good opponent,” Vega said. “It’s good getting to learn from the guys, getting together and playing each other’s style. It feels good to win.”

San Antonio FC will play its second preseason match on February 18 as it hosts St. Edward’s University in a closed-door friendly at Toyota Field. The club is currently preparing for their first USL match on March 26 at Rio Grande Valley FC.
