OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC newcomers Alex Dixon and Miguel Gonzalez and trialist Josh Taylor each tallied a goal to lead the side to a 3-1 victory against John Brown University 3-1 in the club’s first preseason match of 2017 on Saturday afternooon.

Energy FC got on the board first in the 13th minute when Luis Martinez sent a corner kick from the left into the near post that Dixon headed past JBU goalkeeper Adam Holt. Dixon, who helped the Rochester Rhinos claim the 2015 USL Cup, finished the first half with several quality scoring chances in his OKC debut.

JBU tied the game in the 72nd minute when a loose ball in the Energy FC penalty area caromed to Kelvin Omondi, who blasted a shot past diving OKC goalkeeper Jacob Lissek, who had entered the match in the 60th minute. Both Energy FC goalkeepers Cody Laurendi and C.J. Cochran had also seen action prior to Lissek, recording a pair of 30-minute scoreless stints.

OKC regained the lead six minutes later when Taylor took a pass from Kyle Hyland near the lower left corner of the penalty area, carried it into the JBU box and fired a shot past the outstretched Holt. Gonzalez wrapped up the scoring with five minutes to go when a series of passes deep in the JBU penalty area by Danni König and brother Daniel Gonzalez resulted in Miguel Gonzalez’s first goal in an Energy FC uniform from the left corner of the JBU six-yard area.
