CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy II got their preseason off to a winning start as they defeated Cal State Fullerton 3-0 in their first scrimmage ahead of the 2017 USL season.

LA Galaxy trialist Miguel Aguilar scored on an assist from returning Los Dos forward Ethan Zubak in the first half, while LA Galaxy Academy’s Jonah Estrada and an LA Galaxy II trialist each added a goal in the second half. More important to LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz, however, was the defensive effort.

“For the past two weeks, all we’ve been working on were defensive principles,” Muñoz said. “To keep a shutout in the first game with a mix group of Galaxy II players, trialists and academy kids… I think you can check off objective number one.”

Muñoz acknowledged room for improvement, but was enthusiastic about what he saw in the team’s first outing.

“The vocabulary, the style and the vision that we have isn’t going to come out overnight especially with a lot of moving pieces,” Muñoz said. “But I think you saw glimpses of everything that we’ve worked on for two weeks come out at really good moments today.”

The Galaxy II will kick off their fourth season in the USL on March 25 when they face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium.
