Former U.S. U23 and Fire Homegrown reunited with Pause

IRVINE, Calif. – Orange County SC announced the signing of a second former U.S. U23 International in as many days on Friday as it introduced Victor Pineda as its newest signing. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

A former member of the Chicago Fire, Pineda joins fellow former U.S. U23 international Oscar Sorto in joining Orange County ahead of the 2017 USL season.

Pineda joins Orange County SC following success for both Indy Eleven and most recently with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. Pineda helped the Strikers reach the Quarterfinals of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup last season before the side fell to his former club, the Fire.

Pineda had signed with the Fire as the first Homegrown Player in the club’s history. The midfielder went on to make four appearances for the Fire in MLS, making his debut against the New York Red Bulls in March, 2014. He is set to link up with Orange County SC Head Coach Logan Pause once again following their time together at the Fire.

“I’ve known Victor for a long time, both as a player and a person and he will instantly have an impact in what we are building. His experience will serve us and our group well,” said Pause.

Pineda, brings a wealth of youth national team experience to the squad having represented the U.S. all the way from the U17s through to the U23s. He has recorded more than 20 youth national team appearances. He will now join former youth national teammates Oscar Sorto and Juan Pablo Ocegueda at the club. All three played together at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey.
